These Ham and Cheese Sticks have been my lunchtime lifesaver ever since my kids started school. There's something magical about the combination of flaky crescent rolls warm ham and gooey cheese that makes everyone happy. The buttery glaze on top takes them from simple to simply irresistible and the best part is how quick they come together.

A Recipe That Never Fails

As a busy parent I'm always looking for recipes that are both kid approved and hassle free. These little rolls check all the boxes. My picky eater who usually turns his nose up at everything devours these without hesitation. I love how flexible they are too you can switch up the ingredients based on what's in your fridge and they still turn out amazing every time.

What You'll Need

  • Crescent Dough Sheets: I grab the store bought ones to save time make sure they're not too cold or they'll tear.
  • Sliced Ham: The thin deli sliced kind works perfectly here.
  • Cheddar Cheese: We love sharp cheddar but any melty cheese does the job.
  • Our Special Glaze: A quick mix of melted butter Worcestershire mustard onion powder and poppy seeds trust me it makes all the difference.

Let's Make Them

Put It All Together
Get your oven warming to 350°F while you unroll and cut those crescents. Layer each strip with ham and a cheese stick then roll them up nice and snug.
Add The Magic Touch
Whisk up that butter glaze it smells amazing already and brush it all over those rolls. Pop them in the oven for about 12 15 minutes until they're golden and bubbly.

Mix It Up

Sometimes I use Swiss cheese when we want to feel fancy or pepper jack when we're craving a kick. Turkey works just as well as ham and my kids go crazy when I sprinkle some crispy bacon bits on top. It's fun to experiment with different combinations until you find your family's favorite.

My Best Tips

After making these countless times I've learned a few tricks. Really pinch those dough seams closed to keep the cheese from escaping and don't skimp on the butter glaze it's what makes them extra special. They're absolutely best straight from the oven when the cheese is all stretchy and perfect.

Save Some For Later

If you somehow end up with leftovers pop them in an airtight container in the fridge. They'll stay good for 2 3 days and reheat beautifully in the oven or air fryer just a few minutes is all they need to get crispy again.

Ways to Serve

We love these with a simple side salad or some fresh fruit for lunch. My kids favorite dipping sauces are honey mustard or marinara sauce. I've even started packing them in lunchboxes they're perfect at room temperature and always come home in empty containers.

Frequently Asked Questions

→ Can I make these ahead?
They're best served warm but can be made ahead and reheated briefly. The glaze helps keep them from drying out.
→ What kind of cheese works best?
String cheese or cheese sticks work well as they hold their shape. You can use different flavors like mozzarella or colby jack.
→ Why fold in the ends?
Folding the ends prevents cheese from leaking during baking. Make sure to seal all edges well.
→ Can I use different meats?
Yes, turkey, roast beef, or other deli meats work well. Just make sure they're thinly sliced for easy rolling.
→ Why line the baking sheet?
Foil or parchment prevents sticking and makes cleanup easier, especially if any cheese leaks out during baking.
