Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the spaghetti and cook according to the package instructions until al dente. Reserve 1/2 cup of pasta cooking water before draining.

In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add garlic slices and sauté for 1-2 minutes until golden brown. Stir in red pepper flakes for a spicy kick. Avoid burning the garlic.

Add the drained pasta to the skillet with the garlic and oil mixture. Toss to coat thoroughly. Add a splash of reserved pasta water if the mixture seems dry.

Garnish with freshly chopped parsley and grated Parmesan cheese, if desired. Toss everything together and serve immediately.
