Ham and Lentil Soup (Print Version)

# Ingredients:

→ Meat

01 - 6 strips bacon, cut into pieces
02 - 2 cups diced ham

→ Vegetables

03 - 1 medium onion, finely chopped
04 - 2 sticks celery, finely chopped
05 - 2 medium carrots, peeled and chopped
06 - 4 cloves garlic, minced

→ Soup Base

07 - 6 cups chicken broth
08 - 1 can (15 oz) tomato sauce
09 - 1.5 cups dry green or brown lentils
10 - 1/2 teaspoon Italian seasoning
11 - 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
12 - 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes
13 - Salt and pepper to taste

# Instructions:

01 - Fry bacon until crispy, about 10 minutes. Reserve 1-2 tablespoons fat.
02 - Cook onion, celery, and carrots in bacon fat 5-7 minutes. Add garlic briefly.
03 - Add all ingredients to slow cooker. Cook on high 3-4 hours or low 6-8 hours.
04 - Add salt and pepper to taste before serving.

# Notes:

01 - Can use leftover ham bone
02 - Can be made on stovetop in about 1 hour
03 - Add more liquid if needed
