Classic Comforting Shepherd's Pie (Print Version)

# Ingredients:

→ Meat Filling

01 - 2 tablespoons butter
02 - 1 medium onion, chopped
03 - 1 pound lean ground beef or lamb
04 - 1/2 teaspoon Italian seasoning
05 - 2 tablespoons tomato paste
06 - 2 tablespoons flour
07 - 1 cup beef broth
08 - 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
09 - 1/2 teaspoon salt
10 - 2 cups frozen mixed vegetables

→ Potato Topping

11 - 2.5 pounds Russet potatoes, peeled and quartered
12 - 1/2 cup heavy cream
13 - 1/4 cup butter
14 - 3 cloves garlic, minced
15 - 1/2 teaspoon salt
16 - Pepper to taste
17 - Fresh parsley for garnish (optional)

# Instructions:

01 - Boil potatoes. Meanwhile, preheat oven to 375°F and start meat filling.
02 - Sauté onion in butter, add beef and brown. Add seasonings, tomato paste, flour, then liquids and vegetables.
03 - Warm cream, butter, and garlic. Mash with cooked potatoes until smooth.
04 - Layer meat mixture in 9x13 dish, top with potatoes. Bake 30 minutes, broil briefly to brown top.
