Pizza Tot Comfort Bake (Print Version)

# Ingredients:

→ Base

01 - 450 g ground beef or Italian sausage
02 - 1 small onion, diced
03 - 480 ml marinara or pizza sauce
04 - 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
05 - Salt, to taste
06 - Black pepper, to taste

→ Dairy

07 - 200 g shredded mozzarella cheese or a blend of mozzarella and cheddar, divided

→ Topping

08 - 900 g frozen tater tots

→ Optional Toppings

09 - 60 g mini pepperoni slices
10 - 60 g sliced black olives
11 - 65 g diced bell pepper
12 - 20 g sliced green onions
13 - 30 g sliced mushrooms

# Instructions:

01 - Preheat oven to 200°C and lightly grease a 23x33 cm baking dish.
02 - Heat a large skillet over medium flame. Sauté ground beef and diced onion for 5–7 minutes until beef is fully browned and onion is softened. Drain excess fat.
03 - Add marinara or pizza sauce, Italian seasoning, and a pinch of salt and pepper to the skillet. Mix thoroughly and simmer for 2 minutes.
04 - Evenly spread the beef and sauce mixture in the prepared baking dish. Scatter 100 g shredded cheese over the mixture.
05 - Lay frozen tater tots in a single even layer over the cheese and beef base. Sprinkle the remaining 100 g cheese over the tater tots.
06 - Transfer to the oven and bake for 25–30 minutes, or until tater tots are crisp and cheese is fully melted and bubbling.
07 - If desired, add pepperoni, olives, bell peppers, green onions, or mushrooms atop the cooked casserole. Bake for an additional 5 minutes to warm toppings through.
08 - Remove from oven and allow casserole to rest briefly before serving.

01 - For a vegetarian version, omit the meat and enhance with additional vegetables such as mushrooms, bell peppers, or olives.
02 - Substitute ground turkey or Italian sausage to vary the protein according to taste.
03 - Customize further with your preferred pizza toppings after the initial bake.
